SPAÉ: HOME & ONLINE ACADEMIC TUTORING

ABOUT SPAÉ

Founded in 1993 by Nicole and Robert Tremblay, retired teachers from College Mont-Saint-Louis in Montreal, SPAÉ is a private tutoring agency whose mission is to help students realize their full potential throughout their schooling. Since 2007, the passion for helping students succeed was picked up by Mr Marc André Paquin, who expanded services to reach the majority of Quebec’s population. The SPAÉ joined forces with ÉducaPlus in summer 2012 to offer more services, especially for students having learning disabilities. Together, we represent a full feature help desk that will assist parents and their kids whatever the needs.

SERVICES

Our tutoring agency is dedicated to all French speaking schools with more than 400 tutors. In some cases, we also help students attending English schools since few tutors are anglophones (mostly in the Montreal area, for Math and Science in High School). Don’t hesitate to contact us to check availabilities.

SPAÉ offers a Home & Online tutoring service for private lessons either because of difficulties in one or more subjects or simply to improve comprehension in a subject like Mathematics, French, Science, English, History… Our members are based in many regions: from Gatineau to Quebec City and from the Laurentians to Sherbrooke, with a major presence in the Laval, Montréal and Longueuil area. Of course, our Online service can help all students, no matter where they live in Québec.

Our tutoring services will help restore the student’s confidence, stimulate the self-esteem with better results, boost the discovery or rediscovery of his/her potential and foster the joy of learning and exceeding one’s limits. In the one-on-one relationship, a meaningful complicity is established between the tutor and his/her student: empathy and guidance that stimulate learning.

For more information on dedicated or specialized schooling support, please visit the ÉducaPlus web site. You don’t have to choose one service over the other. Our services are complementary so our common Customer service team will assist and refer you the right resources.

SPAÉ: academic achievement, one student at a time!

TUTORS

All SPAÉ tutors are teaching in schools or CEGEPs or have a university level specialized degree. They are familiar with the current programs taught in schools. Most of them are active teachers, some are retired. We require a background check to mitigate any security concerns. We also monitor the quality of the courses given by our tutors based on customer satisfaction at the end of a mandate (telephone interviews by sampling & customer online review) in order to constantly improve our team and keeping only the best, year after year since 1993! The bottom line: great competence and experience guaranteed!

SPECIALZED LEARNING NEEDS

Remedial teachers specialize in learning disabilities after an evaluation or a neuropsychological diagnosis. Their mission is to prevent, identify and fix problems in the field of spoken and written language, logical-mathematical reasoning and psychomotor development. They assist and advise the class teacher or tutor in their teaching methods when it comes to students having learning difficulties. We will assess your needs and refer an ÉducaPlus specialist if required.

TERMS

You benefit from a simple and straightforward approach: no contract to sign, no commitment. You don’t pay anything in advance, you only pay the tutor at each class and you can stop at any time. You decide the frequency and the length of each course. You also have the ability to change tutor at any time if the one we have assigned to you does not meet your expectations for any reason. Our tutors can also provide lessons for 2 or 3 students making it possible for parents to share the cost of a session, thus, even more affordable.

RATES

The rates are degressive, based on the duration of the course making a 90 or 120 minutes even more affordable.

Tutoring rates for 2019-2020

The prices displayed are net and take into account the tutor’s expenses and travel time, which are the same for a one or two-hour class. Our rates are therefore decreasing according to the duration to allow you to save: the cost for a two-hour course is proportionally lower than for two one-hour courses!

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION

For any tutoring service, a 20$ fee is payable during the first course of the school year.

This annual subscription allows you to take advantage of agency services, research, promotions and discounts for up to 3 students registered in your account. Payable once and valid throughout the school year, from September 1st to August 31st. Registrations made between July 1st and August 31st are also valid during the following school year.

The subscription is paid directly to the tutor at the same time as the course itself according to the chosen duration.

Your tutor will refund you this fee at the 11th class with a discount of 20$ on the price of the course.

PAYMENT TERMS

The courses are payable in cash or by INTERAC transfer to the teacher himself during each course. There is no contract to sign, no commitment, you can end the courses at 24 hours notice. It is up to the teacher to accept or not the payment by check. To avoid any problem of payment, we recommend to all our tutors to be paid at the beginning of the course according to the duration you have chosen.

RECEIPTS

The tutor can issue a receipt if you wish. Be aware, however, that tutoring and/or private courses, by default, are not tax deductible, either federally or provincially. There are, however, situations where these courses can be! Among other things, in the context of sports/cultural activities for a minor with a course per week for at least 8 consecutive weeks of the same subject/activity. Another specific case is a minor with a medical diagnosis attesting to a learning disability. However, despite a medical prescription, you must validate your eligibility to Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency.

GROUPING: EVEN MORE SAVINGS!

A teacher can divide his time between two or three students, from the same family or with neighbors at no additional cost. It will be necessary, however, that these students are at similar levels to have a group course. If not, they will be taken one after the other, as needed. You organize the pairing, you make sure of the common availability of the students, the place of course and the sharing of the costs with the other parents. This will save you a lot of money.

Semi-private classes are generally longer; 30 min. per additional student to meet the specific needs of each. You pay for the total duration of the session and not per student. The tutor will judge the relevance of pairing so as not to compromise the quality of a course.

IN CASE OF CANCELLATION

When you wish to cancel or postpone a course, you must notify the teacher at least 24 hours in advance otherwise an amount of 30$ will be required at the next class.
